UNMIS
United Nations Mission in Sudan

Closure of UNMIS

The United Nation Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) concluded its mandate on 9 July 2011, coinciding with South Sudan’s independence, transitioning to the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) to support the new nation’s stability and development.

25 January - UNMIS is not evacuating staff members

The UN Mission in Sudan is disappointed that some Sudanese daily newspapers on Sunday reported that the Mission intends to evacuate international and national staff members in reaction to a possible decision from the International Criminal Court.

These reports are inaccurate and misleading.

UNMIS is performing its various mandated functions normally to support the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and will continue to do so regardless of any ICC decision.

UNMIS once again calls upon all media to check their stories on UNMIS with the office of the UNMIS Spokesperson in order to avoid publications of false rumors and creating unnecessary confusion in the minds of the public.
